Peer reviewed article for Journal of Policy Design and Practice - co-author
An open access journal article on the value and equally shortcomings of co-design in pursuit of public sector innovation to deliver net zero policy outcomes in Scotland.
This article is a reflection of our role as facilitators following a series of collaborative workshops in partnership with BE-ST (Built Environment - Smarter Transformation) for cross-sectoral net zero collaboration in alignment with Scottish government’s net zero agenda.
We argue that co-design is best positioned as a creative facet of a wider collaborative governance approach, one that demands critical attention to institutional conditions, cross-sector alignment, and how power is shared across public sector innovation initiatives.

I was approached by SEDA editor Shravya Dayaneni to contribute to an edition looking at indigenous wisdom and Gaelic Heritage. I am neither of Indigenous heritage nor Gaelic; but I am deeply invested in pluralistic paradigms of thinking and making through design, I thought this would be a great space to be in conversation with practitioners who were experts with lived experience and to compile our collective understanding into something tangible and accessible. So here is not an exhaustive or final list of how to design better– but hopefully a call to better action.
